Reading Progress Backup & Restore (Export/Import)

Export or restore reading progress held in this browser. The tool validates a backup locally; it does not upload progress or include the mature-source acknowledgement.

Backups stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to back up and restore progress

Use Export to create a copy of the progress currently held in this browser. Depending on the interface, the result can be a JSON file or a copyable backup code. Save it somewhere you control before clearing browser data or moving to a different device.

To restore, choose a file or paste the code and review the preview before applying it. Select merge when you want to combine records where the interface can do so safely, or replace when you intend to replace the current progress. Read the summary carefully before confirming.

Import validation should reject malformed JSON, unsupported versions, out-of-range page numbers, oversized payloads and excessive bookmark notes. If a value is not accepted, correct the source backup or keep the current data. Nothing is uploaded to this website.

What the backup contains—and what it does not

The progress format can include a version number, update timestamp, per-series last-read positions, bookmark page numbers and notes, and a reading pace. Bookmark notes are plain text. Treat a downloaded file or backup code as private because it can contain what you chose to remember.

The age-notice acknowledgement is deliberately not part of progress backup. An import must never be used to bypass or extend the mature-source notice. Site preferences that are not part of the validated progress schema should also remain separate and clearly explained.

No comics, screenshots, source cookies or artist media are included. A backup is a small record of your own reading choices, not a copy of the index and not a way to open an official page without its source link.

Understand merge and replace before choosing

Merge is useful when both browser profiles have new positions you want to retain, but the tool must explain how conflicting positions and duplicate bookmarks are handled. If the preview does not make the result clear, cancel and export both copies before proceeding.

Replace is for making the selected backup the current browser’s progress. It can overwrite local positions and bookmarks, so it should require an explicit confirmation after a preview. An import error must leave existing data untouched.

If the file came from another person, review every note before applying it. The backup format is not a secure messaging channel. Imported text should render as text, never as HTML.

Local storage and your choice

The tracker stores its progress in local browser storage and does not send it to WordPress. Export creates a file or code on your device; restore reads it on your device. The website does not receive a copy as part of the import process.

Local storage can be cleared by the browser, removed by device cleanup or unavailable in private settings. That is why an explicit backup can help. It is not necessary to use the export feature if you prefer not to keep a separate file.

For the exact keys and removal instructions, read the Cookie & Storage Policy. The Privacy Policy explains what the site does not collect and how contact messages are handled.

Tips for a reliable transfer

Export immediately before a planned browser or device change so the copy reflects your most recent session. Keep the source file until you have confirmed that the destination browser shows the positions and bookmarks you expect.

Do not edit the JSON by hand unless you understand its version and validation rules. A small syntax error can make the file unreadable. If the tool offers a copy code, preserve it exactly and do not add formatting characters.

If storage is blocked in the destination browser, an import may be visible only temporarily. Resolve the browser setting or keep the file available before relying on local persistence.

An export is a copy, not a live connection between browsers. After a transfer, the original browser keeps its own saved version until you change or clear it. If you read on both devices, make a fresh export from the browser whose position you intend to keep before importing again.

Choose a filename that helps you identify the backup date, but remember that the file contains personal reading choices. Do not attach it to a public correction request. The contact form is for editorial communication and never needs a copy of your progress.

Frequently asked questions

Does export upload my progress?

No. Export creates a local file or code. The companion does not provide a progress-upload endpoint.

Can an imported backup approve mature-source access?

No. Age acknowledgement is intentionally excluded from backups and is handled separately by the current browser.

What if the preview shows unexpected changes?

Cancel the import. Export your current data first, then check that the file is from this tool and that its values are valid.

Exported data stays under your control and can contain bookmark notes. Keep the file private, validate the preview and cancel before applying anything unexpected.
