Reading Backup Inspector: Check Progress Without Restoring

Private tool: inputs stay on this page. No account, upload or complete comic index is required.

Check a progress file before making a restore decision

Backup Inspector is a read-only check for JSON exported by this companion. Choose a file or paste backup code, then inspect the structure and saved positions without merging or replacing anything. The page never calls the restore action. Your existing tracker remains unchanged even when the file contains lower, higher or unfamiliar series positions.

File selection reads the contents in this browser; it is not an upload to a server. The result shows counts and navigation data, not comic images or full bookmark notes. Treat the underlying file as private anyway, because notes remain readable inside the JSON even when this tool deliberately omits them from its result.

Supported files and format checks

Use a reading-progress export under 100 KiB. The supported format has version 1, a valid UTC backup timestamp and a collection of series records. Each record contains a whole last-read number, bookmarks and a positive pages-per-day value. The validator rejects unsupported fields, unsafe series identifiers and values outside the progress format’s limits.

Each series supports at most fifty bookmarks, and each note is limited to 140 characters. The inspector shares the same format validation used by Progress Backup, so a file rejected here should not be treated as a safe restore candidate merely because its filename ends in .json. A renamed document, broken paste or arbitrary JSON object is not a reading-progress backup.

What the result proves and what it does not

A valid result lists the backup timestamp, each series identifier, last-read page, bookmark count and stored pace. Compare those values with what you expected from the device that created the export. The timestamp belongs to the file; it is not a server verification date or proof that no reading occurred after the export.

Structural validity does not establish ownership, completeness or freshness. An empty series collection can be valid while containing no position to recover. A page number can be valid while lacking an exact source link in this site’s index. Unknown but well-formed series identifiers can be retained for future use; inspection does not publish them as verified series guides.

A safe sequence for moving to another browser

First export from the browser with the desired progress. Inspect the file and compare its values there. On the destination browser, export any existing progress before making a restore decision. Then use Progress Backup to validate a preview and choose merge or replace deliberately.

Merge keeps the greater position for matching series; replace discards destination progress absent from the selected backup. Inspection does neither. After an intentional restore, return to Reading Tracker, check each selected series and reload once to verify persistence. Keep the original export until that check succeeds.

Clear an inspection or respond to an error

Clear inspection removes the selected file, pasted code and displayed result from this page. It does not delete the file from your device or reset reading progress. Editing pasted code invalidates the visible result so an older successful inspection is not mistaken for validation of newly changed content.

If validation fails, export again from the original browser if that copy is still available. Avoid hand-editing a broken file just to bypass a warning: a syntactically valid document may still have lost records. The transfer guide below covers safe recovery choices, while the missing-progress guide distinguishes a local storage problem from an incomplete source index.
